After winter lawn care can be difficult. Where do you start? What do you need? Is your grass okay? What condition are the trees in? Is everything going to grow back the same? The answer is maybe. It all depends on what steps you took before winter and what steps you take after winter. Leaf removal, aeration, and winter fertilizer are three of the most recommended application to complete before winter. After winter lawn care is just as important to your lawns health as pre-winter lawn care. Here are applications and services that we recommend you get done early spring every year.

Fertilizer

Pre-emergent is used to prevent any new weeds from forming. This is essential to start your lawn off on a good foot promoting only grass growth. If you have existing weeds, a pre-emergent will not kill them. You will need to apply a weed killer at that point. Getting on a regular fertilizer schedule will prevent weeds from growing all year.

Aeration & Overseeding

Aeration is removing cork size holes from your lawn to allow the soil to breathe. Most people only consider doing aeration in the fall. Landscaping professionals recommend aerating twice a year. Once in the fall and once in the spring. This allows your grass to get the nutrients that it may have been missing. Overseeding afterwards promotes lush grass growth.

Tree Trimming

Trees take on a serious toll over the winter. They carry a lot of weight with snow and ice. After a snowstorm or after winter is over, make sure you do not have any damaged tree branches. To prevent this, before winter starts have a landscaping team come and trim all low baring or damaged tree branches. This can prevent a tree branch from falling and damaging your property.

Irrigation

After winter lawn care includes getting your irrigation system turned on and programmed. Always winterize your sprinkler system to avoid any damages after winter. In most climates, we suggest water 1-2 times a week. When receiving heavy rainfall it is best to skip watering to avoid over watering or potential tearing up your lawn.

Regular Mowing

Weekly Mowing is important to maintain a healthy lawn. Keep grass cut between 2.5”-3.5” inches for maximum health. Overgrown lawns tend to attract pest and unwanted animals.
